OK Go Talks about leaving EMI

Posted By: Atnevon - April.4.2010 - Comments(0)

I was listening to net@night today while working on some coding and happened across an interview that they did with the lead singer from OK Go about the band's reasons for leaving the EMI record label.

While it's not quite the music you'll typically find here, I think the points he makes can definitely apply to our artists, and might be encouraging to those looking to start up a band as well. If you get a chance, give the episode a watch or listen at:

Help Haiti

There's a ton of news out there today about the earthquake that's just hit Haiti and the devastation that it's already caused. I won't re-hash it all here, but it's enough to say that it's looking and sounding like a pretty horrible situation.

If you want to help out, one thing that I've seen mentioned a few times from a few sources I trust (and they all seem to have confirmed this directly), is to text HAITI to 90999 to donate $10 to the Red Cross relief fund. The donations add up quick, so it really can help.

To donate more than $10 or to find other ways to help, I'd head over to www.redcross.org for other options.

Update: It looks like the donations are definitely working already. They've raised over $800,000 at last count. That's pretty incredible I think.

Forums and Website Upgrade

Posted By: Atnevon - January.5.2010 - Comments(20)

As you've probably noticed, we're currently upgrading our forums software to Invision Power Board 3.0. The forums upgrade is now complete; however, there are still a few bugs to work out with the new system. You should see the main page issues and some of the minor bugs resolved by tomorrow evening.

Until then, feel free to explore. We think you'll very much enjoy the new features that 3.0 has to offer. :)

Happy New Year!

A whole other year to mess up in! Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :wizard:

Did anyone make resolutions for the year?

Plans?

Goals?

Edit to add: Funny - I never thought I'd live long enough to see 2000 kick off, yet, here I am a DECADE later kicking off 2010. Kinda cool.

Happy Holidays.

Server Outage Today

Posted By: Atnevon - December.2.2009 - Comments(5)

We had a little outage today on the station and the site... and it's all your fault... yes, you!

Just kidding.

We had a problem with a bad robot... er script, and due to a failure... er should I say an epic FAIL, we didn't catch it right away, and the site stayed down for a lot longer than it should have been.

We're going to do everything we can to make sure it doesn't happen again, so please forgive us? Pwease?

Right thing or smart thing...

Often times in life there are choices we have to make.

I've always been a firm believer that the reality is never the choice itself, but rather a question "Can you live with the consequences of the choice you make?" (Everything has a price.)

The rules for this poll are simple. A choice is now before you. You can't vote on what you would want to do, you can only vote on what you would do.

I'm not going to present you with a situation. Only the choice.

The choice here is simple - would do the right thing, or the smart thing?

The smart thing:
has no consquences to you and would somewhat protect you.

The right thing:
has dire consequences for you alone, but has the remote possiblity of helping others in the future. There is no guarantee that if you do the right thing anything postive will result at all, but regardless it will still have serious consequences for you.

Choose.
