How to get on Sanctuary's "Eat List", or the pit!!! (or stay out/off of both.)

Posted By: SanctuaryRTBH - June.22.2008, 02:10PM - Comments (23)

Breaking these rules may get you eaten, tossed into the pit, beaten with my nerf bat, other or all of them! tongue.gif

Rule #1.

If you are a band - remember kindergarten when we were taught to "colour inside the lines" - well - music is no different - colour inside the lines damn it!!!!! Loud does not equal better! mad.gif

Get this one down into your heads. Whatever freakin' genius thought that was a good idea to record "loud" and outside the lines - is a total and complete moron. mad.gif

Failure to do so - gets you sent to my tummy or the pit. I will decide which based on the number of infractions to the rule, who you are and exactly how you plan on making it up to me. (and my ears and my sense of fun.)

Rule #2.

Any sacrilege to my song, in any way - gets you instantly placed in the pit.

There is no negotiation to this rule.

Rule #3.

Meanies. Meanies are instantly placed in the pit.

I will not eat meanies - they taste yucky - however ARK's may save you. ( ARK = Random Acts of Kindness.) A jury of your peers will decide your length of stay in the pit.

More to follow.

Okay, I'm a helpless addict to my Slashdot RSS feed, I'll admit it. But, when they linked to this article, I thought it was worth posting here as I think it might be worth some discussion.

QUOTE
The study found that those who scored higher on the dark triad personality traits tended to have more partners and more desire for short-term relationships, Jonason reported at the Human Behavior and Evolution Society meeting in Kyoto, Japan, earlier this month. But the correlation only held in males....

This observation seems to hold across cultures. David Schmitt of Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois, presented preliminary results at the same meeting from a survey of more than 35,000 people in 57 countries. He found a similar link between the dark triad and reproductive success in men. "It is universal across cultures for high dark triad scorers to be more active in short-term mating," Schmitt says. "They are more likely to try and poach other people's partners for a brief affair."

Now, I do have to give my own little counter theory to this as well: I think that in a lot of cases, when studying things of this nature, you're going to get a lot more of the people with 'dark triad personality traits' that will both more easily admit to having sex where some may not and will often times exaggerate the numbers for the sake of ego.

However, given the broadness of the study and the number of people they used for a test pool, does my counter theory still hold up? What do you think the reality is of the situation, based on your own experiences in life?

Facebook Doesn't Like Second Shifters, It is the Purest Form of Evil Incarnate

Posted By: Atnevon - June.12.2008, 10:50PM - Comments (6)

Earlier today we started working on expanding our presence online a bit, and we delved into the twisted world that is Facebook. Now, why do I say twisted world? Well, here's how Facebook can turn something that should be easy into a quest to escape the depths of hell:

We start our trek in the same stage as you would expect to encounter when you register your site for any social networking service out there - registration. Since there is no longer the requirement of a .edu email address for Facebook, it seemed to me like this would be fairly straight forward. How wrong I was. Here is what we entered for the profile to start with:

Full Name: Second Shifters
Your email: emailly@address.com
New Password: not_telling_you
Birthday: I used 2003 for the birth year, as that was the year the station launched.

Right off the bat, it had issues with the birth year and told me that Second Shifters wasn't qualified to join Facebook because of its age. Okay, not a big deal, we'll just change the birth year and fake it out. Oh, wait... why won't it let me try again? Hmm... let's refresh the page here... What? Why can't I try again? What if I was just someone that made a mistake and put in the wrong year purely by accident?

With that it was time to pull a trick or two out of the geek handbook to clear out the cookies and get a new IP so I could try registering us again. I finally got back to a registration screen, and this time put in 1903 for the year. Did Facebook decide to play nice and let us register this time? Nooooooo, of course not! What did Facebook say then? "Please use a *real* birthday!"

After a few unintelligible disgruntled sounds, another IP change, and another clearning of the browser cookies, I was finally back to another registration screen. This time I went with 1983, and once I hit register, everything looked on track to go through. A call came in on my phone though, so I left the tab for a minute to take care of some work.

And... when I came back to it... it told me that Facebook's AI system had determined that the name 'Second Shifters' wasn't a real name, and it wasn't going to let us register under that name.

Frustration ensued... and after trying and failing miserably with a few variations on 'Second Shifters', I gave up and decided to use my existing Facebook account to just create a group for the station instead of a whole new registration.

So... for those of you that wish to join us on Facebook, our group link is:
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=16229437846

And please please do join... because... well... this little battle with Facebook's much too intelligent for its own good AI needs to have been worth the effort, or else I may be forced to scream, lol.

The request system, slowly but surely

It's going to take quite a bit of time still to complete it in full- but we're slowly pulling it all together.

Keep in mind not everything we have on the station is up on the pages for artists - but it is quite the task getting it all together so please be patient with us.

In the meantime if you would like to see other features added for the artists - or even an artist you'd like to hear - feel free to suggest them :-) We're all about you!!

*does a lil dance*

Guess who's back....back again.....*does the shifty eye thing*

yeah...life has been hectic...and stuff...and umm...I've been busy....keeping Nip busy...and...my brain is shattered *grins*

So...HAI!!!

We were very pleased to be joined Saturday afternoon by Max Arnason
from the band Kooper Kain in our Live Chat and Podcast Interview
Session. The group has held a place on our playlist for quite some time
now, and it was very nice to have some time to get to know them a bit
better in our chat room and on air.

Those that enjoy the music as much as we did can find a link to buy
their latest album, Hydrogen Echo Girl, on iTunes (along with pictures, a bio, and links) at their detailed artist profile on our site:
http://www.secondshifters.com/artist/Koope...n&view=detailed

They are hard at work on their 4th album as well, so be sure to keep an eye out for its release in the not too distant future. It should be well worth picking up.

And now, for those downloads you've been waiting for:
